The Monti Gemelli are a fascinating mountain massif in the central Apennines, located between the regions of Marche and Abruzzo, just a few kilometres from Ascoli Piceno. Characterised by two parallel ridges – Monte Girella and Monte Foltrone – they offer unspoilt landscapes, ancient woodlands, deep valleys and panoramic views stretching all the way to the Adriatic Sea. The area is ideal for hiking, trekking and outdoor activities, as well as for those seeking peace, unspoilt nature and small villages rich in history and tradition. It is a perfect place to unwind and discover the most authentic spirit of the region.
The Monti Gemelli boast an extraordinary variety of biomes and are enchanting in every season. They are ideal for all mountain lovers, offering both easy, relaxing walks and more challenging routes for those in search of adventure. The entire area, with its peaks, forests and gorges, provides stunning scenery all year round, though it should always be explored with due care, especially in winter.

Girella Loop – a circular route around the summit of Monte Girella, scenic and of moderate difficulty.
Monte Girella (summit) – the classic ascent, with views over the surrounding mountains and the Adriatic Sea.
Monte Foltrone Loop – a more demanding panoramic circuit starting from Battaglia and reaching the summit of Monte Foltrone.

Where to park
• Rifugio Tre Caciare (Monte Girella side)
A common starting point for reaching the ridge of Monte Girella is the car park in front of the Rifugio Tre Caciare, at around 1,400 metres above sea level. From here, CAI-marked trails lead to the summit and the panoramic loop.
• San Giacomo / unpaved road towards Monte Girella
There is also a car park connected to the unpaved road that climbs up from San Giacomo, ideal for easier walks or for visiting the traditional caciare stone shelters and enjoying the open views over the mountain range.
• Battaglia (Monte Foltrone side)
To access Monte Foltrone and its circular routes, you can park near the church of Battaglia or along the road just beyond it. This is a convenient starting point for both direct ascents and loop walks.
